As Sony and Marvel Studios prepare for their latest iteration of the wallcrawler, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the press has been all over any potential leaks. There isn’t a lot known about this film other than the fact that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will be starring, and Sadie Sink will also be co-starring as an unknown name, as of yet. Quite naturally, that has led to fans speculating in droves as to who she could be playing, and BSO wanted to share a couple of the possibilities with you, along with their source material origins.
So, with that in mind, here are several possible names that Sadie Sink could be playing in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s important to keep in mind that these are just for fun. I also want to note that the image going around of Sadie Sink in a Spider-Man outfit — the one we’re using — is completely AI, and was made by a fan to see what she would look like. Do not let people fool you into thinking it’s real. It has been confirmed as AI by the maker. That said, let’s start with that image.
May “Mayday” Parker
Mayday Parker is the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. She primarily exists in Earth-982, which is known as MC2. The universe was the brainchild of Tom DeFalco in 1988, and actually acted as Marvel’s first ongoing alternate future, as Ultimate Marvel wouldn’t drop until 2000. Parker would become a fan favorite and begin appearing in many other titles, including several of her own books.
Mayday is the most well-known of Parker’s children, and she’s currently in the new Ultimate Marvel title Ultimate Spider-Man, as well as having her own Infinity comic on Marvel Unlimited, Marvel’s Netflix-like service with over 27,000 books on demand. As the daughter of Mary Jane and Peter, the red hair would come naturally to Mayday.
Jean Grey aka Marvel Girl
This one is a very big long shot, but there’s a possibility that Sadie Sink could be playing the famed X-Men, Jean Grey. Jean Grey is known for her fiery red appearance and flaming red hair. There are times when she’s portrayed as a blonde, but she’s largely been drawn with red hair. The last time she was portrayed on the big screen, they used an actress with naturally red hair in Sophie Turner.
The MCU enjoys using notable MCU films to introduce characters necessary to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s larger plans. It was done with Captain America: Civil War and with Thor: Ragnarok. That’s not a guarantee that Jean Grey would appear in a Spider-Man film, but it’s also not out of the question.
Rachel Cole-Alves
This is the most likely of any character I can think of. If you’ve never heard of Rachel Cole-Alves, she was the main character in a story involving the Punisher, who also happens to be in this film. In that story, her entire family, including her soon-to-be husband, was shot in a wedding day massacre by a group called the Exchange. As she heals up, she decides she’s going on a mission to find and kill those involved with the murder of her family.
This brings her into direct contact with Frank, who gives Rachel a warning to keep out of his hair. Ultimately, it’s Cole-Alves who saves Castle when he needs it most, and that causes him to take the time to ask her the important question of “why?” She ultimately ends up teaming with Frank to get her revenge. She is known for her fiery red hair and for wearing a pair of combat boots and camo pants.
Did we mention that the one real photo the press has managed to grab of Sink on set features her wearing a pair of combat boots and camo pants?
Firestar aka Angel Jones
This one is for the oldheads, and it’s also Rob’s personal guess. Anyone who fondly remembers the NBC animated series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends from the early ’80s will remember Firestar. She didn’t even originate in the comics, as she was a show creation because they wanted but couldn’t legally use the Human Torch. So, a few tweaks and a name change later and… voila! We have Angelica Jones, also known as Firestar.
Yep, she’s a knockoff of another Marvel character created specifically for the Spider-Man show. They even created a backstory for her where she was the companion of Iceman and a former member of the X-Men. She didn’t get her first comic appearance until 1985, but she eventually became a pretty well-loved character in the Spider-Man lore. Not too shabby for a character only created because the writers couldn’t use Johnny Storm.
So there you have it. Four potential names that Sadie Sink could be playing in the upcoming Spidey film. What do you think? Are there any names that we potentially missed? I know the Jean Grey suggestion was out there, but so was having Black Panther in a movie already packed with cameos and the debut of Spider-Man. Sometimes you go big when your back is against the wall, and Marvel’s back is against the wall. Keep it right here on BSO for even more Spider-Man news as it drops.
