Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore reached a plea deal Friday in a criminal case stemming from an incident involving a former staff member with whom he had a romantic relationship, pleading no contest to two misdemeanor charges in exchange for prosecutors dropping three others.
Moore, 39, entered the no-contest pleas to malicious use of a telecommunication device in a domestic relationship and trespassing during a hearing in Washtenaw County District Court. The deal led to the dismissal of a felony home invasion charge and misdemeanor counts of stalking and breaking and entering.
The charges arose from a Dec. 8, 2025, incident at the apartment of Paige Shiver, Moore’s former executive assistant. Authorities said Moore entered her home without permission and threatened self-harm after their two-year affair ended. Shiver, 32, reported the relationship to university officials, prompting an investigation that resulted in Moore’s firing on Dec. 10, 2025.
Moore’s attorney, David Nacht, said his client accepted the deal to avoid a prolonged legal battle and focus on rebuilding his life.
“This resolution allows Sherrone to move forward without the shadow of more serious charges,” Nacht said outside the courthouse.
Prosecutors did not immediately comment on the agreement. Sentencing is scheduled for April 17, with potential penalties including up to 93 days in jail for each misdemeanor, though probation is likely given Moore’s lack of prior criminal history.
Moore, who succeeded Jim Harbaugh as head coach in January 2024, led the Wolverines to a 10-3 record in 2025 before his abrupt dismissal amid the scandal. The university has since named Kyle Whittingham as interim coach.
Shiver’s contract with Michigan expired Feb. 28 and was not renewed, school officials confirmed earlier this week. She has not commented publicly on the case.
