Stephen A. Smith is now saying he’s “glad” his weird little ‘clash’ with Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian on live television didn’t blow up.

Stephen Smith may love to debate and cause drama here and there but with this, he’s smartly backed out for his own good!

On Thursday (Oct. 9), Ohanian, a tech entrepreneur and Reddit co-founder, made a pointed appearance on ESPN’s First Take, directly addressing Smith’s remarks regarding Williams’ intent behind her appearance onstage with rapper Kendrick Lamar during the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

On First Take, Ohanian took the opportunity to clap back with composure and wit. “Stephen A. Smith, I think you had some marriage advice for me,” he said, referencing the earlier remarks.

Smith attempted to downplay the situation, replying, “Listen, I didn’t. Headlines are headlines. We can get into that another time. … I am not qualified. Marital advice? No, not me.”

Unfazed, Ohanian pressed on. “Well I was going to ask you, because you haven’t been married before, right? Because I give advice to plenty of founders who want to build billion-dollar companies, and the reason I do that is because I built billion-dollar companies. So, I generally try to stay in my lane in the advice department.”

While clips of Ohanian’s appearance on the daytime sports show are seemingly unavailable on ESPN’s YouTube channel, Smith has since addressed his exchange with Ohanian on a segment of The Stephen A. Smith Show.

“When Super Bowl Sunday took place, when Kendrick Lamar was performing, Serena Williams came onstage dancing to all of that, and according to the reports and all that, she’s the ex of Drake? Essentially what I said was, ‘Why that energy for an ex?’ If that was my wife, I don’t wanna see that,’ and that was what he was alluding to.”

He continued, adding, “I’m glad that it didn’t escalate or anything like that, and I have absolutely no issue with him whatsoever wanting to address that issue with me because that’s her husband. And I certainly meant no disrespect at all.”

Lessons here? Even Stephen A. Smith knows when to back out! You can debate LeBron James all day, but the moment you come for Alexis Ohanian, you will have to chicken out!
