Lawyers Assert That LSU’s Actions Have “Made It Nearly Impossible” for Brian Kelly to Get Hired

The school’s assertion that it had not “formally terminated” Brian Kelly as its football coach has “made it nearly impossible” for Kelly to find another coaching position, according to a letter from Kelly’s attorneys to LSU.

Kelly “reserves all rights to seek any and all damages to the fullest extent permitted by law” for the interference in any prospective job candidacy, according to the letter, which was issued on November 18 to John H. Carmouche, a member of the board of supervisors, and Verge Ausberry, the athletic director at LSU.

The letter, which ESPN was able to secure, says:

“As you know, there is absolutely no basis to LSU’s contrived positions that Coach Kelly was not terminated or that cause existed for such termination,”

“LSU’s conduct, including its failure to confirm that Coach Kelly was terminated without cause and its unsupported allegations of misconduct on the part of Coach Kelly, has made it nearly impossible for Coach Kelly to secure other football-related employment.

“LSU’s conduct continues to harm Coach Kelly, particularly during this critical hiring period.”

Due to the ongoing legal case, LSU refuses to comment. Wade Rousse, the new president of LSU, was given permission to officially fire Kelly by the board of supervisors on Friday. The board did not specify whether the dismissal would be due to cause or not.
