Patriots’ Drake Maye Turns Down ‘Superman’ Celebration Amid Cam Newton Critiques

Drake Maye rejects “Superman” Celebration amid Cam Newton comments.

Ladies and gentlemen, we may have witnessed the greatest defensive play of Drake Maye’s career on the field. It was him politely saying “Nah, I’m good” to Cam Newton’s legendary Superman celebration.

Maye’s move? A tactical retreat from chaos.

Maye and Newton became embroiled in some drama when the former NFL MVP questioned the legitimacy of the Patriots’ 9-2 start.

“It has fool’s gold written all over them, cubic zirconia middle of the mall,” Newton said, per Lauren Campbell of MassLive. “And yes, is Drake Maye playing good football? Absolutely. I would like to attest his great play to one specific person that I know too well, Josh McDaniels. Now Josh McDaniels may not be a great head coach, but he is a brilliant offensive mind.”

Drake Maye definitely got that perfect moment to send a subtle message to Cam Newton following his comments.

Maye was asked about Newton’s comments during his weekly WEEI Radio appearance and threw some shade toward the broadcaster.

“Oh no,” Maye said. “I don’t even know what show he’s on. I think they get paid to make remarks and make certain comments, so just worried about people in our organization think and worry about what we think and my teammates think and, you know, everybody’s going to have different opinions, so we just got to go out there Sunday and worry about ourselves.”

For now, Maye is sticking with the “humble nod” and “walk away like you just remembered you left the oven on.”

Bold. Respectful. Slightly boring. But undeniably safe.
