Watch Shedeur Sanders Asks the Fans Not to Chant His Name When Dillon Gabriel is Playing

Shedeur Sander‘s NFL debut wasn’t perfect as it was pictured to be, it was rough.

Shedeur Sanders just experienced the NFL in all its chaotic glory, and, well, let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a fairy tale debut. The former college star was thrown into the fire after Dillon Gabriel went down with an injury, and suddenly Shedeur had the entire game on his shoulders. Spoiler alert: it was rough. Really rough.

In the face of the rough debut, he still found opportunity to be thankful.

“I’m extremely thankful. Let me say this: When Dillon’s out there playing, I appreciate the fans (cheering for me), but I’m a good person, so I don’t really like him not feeling comfortable and confident. It puts everything in a tough spot. It’s not helping the team.”

He also admitted to not playing to his best and that’s what potentially great players do.

Sanders completed his first two passes, but not much went right after that. He went 4 for 16 for 47 yards with an interception and was sacked twice, finishing with a 13.5 passer rating as the Ravens rallied for a 23-16 victory.

“I don’t think I played good at all. They gave me an opportunity. I didn’t do up to my expectations to get us a win. I have to take it on the chin,” said Sanders, who also scrambled three times for 16 yards.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski also had this to say;

“We trust our guys to perform. He’s no different, you know, and playing a backup quarterback role, as we’ve talked about over the years, that’s tough to come in there, but we trust him. I know there’s things that he’s going to want to do better, but that’s why we work.”

So yes, Shedeur Sanders’ NFL debut wasn’t perfect, but here’s the thing: every legend starts somewhere. Rough debuts happen, especially in the NFL. And if Shedeur keeps his mindset, and his work ethic intact, he’s going to be one of those quarterbacks fans love to watch grow.
