Lane Kiffin Reportedly Signs A $91-million Contract As LSU Coach For 7 Years

Lane Kiffin has reportedly inked a $91-million contract as LSU coach with juicy benefits.

Lane Kiffin is back in the headlines, and of course, it involves a number so big it makes the rest of us feel instantly poor. Reports claim Kiffin just signed a $91-million contract to coach LSU over the next seven years. That’s right, seven years, $91 million, and probably a small army of assistants whispering sweet nothings about recruiting.

Let’s put that in perspective: that’s about $12 million a year. That’s more than some NFL teams pay their backup quarterbacks. Lane Kiffin is basically buying a small island and calling it “LSU Football.”

Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin is signing a seven-year contract that includes a $12 million salary, with potential bonuses, according to ESPN. That seven-year, $91 million deal would make Kiffin one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. It is a significant raise to his contract with the Rebels, where he was making $9 million a year.

There is no doubt LSU offers a higher ceiling than Ole Miss, but leaving an 11-1 team that is headed to the College Football Playoff is certainly a bold choice.

Louisiana has one of the highest poverty rates in the United States. In 2024, nearly 1 in 5 residents (18.7%) lived below the federal poverty line, and about 50% of households were considered financially insecure when combining those in poverty with the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) group. Louisiana’s median household income is also significantly lower than the national average.

At the end of the day, Lane Kiffin at LSU is more than a coaching hire. It’s a spectacle. It’s a money headline. It’s a reminder that college football has officially entered a new era, one where contracts are bigger than some countries’ GDP, and Lane Kiffin is at the center of it all, smiling, probably plotting a trick play or two.
