According to reports, the New York Knicks do not intend to display a banner at Madison Square Garden to honor their NBA Cup victory in 2025.
The news was revealed by Ian Begley of SNY and Shams Charania of ESPN. Begley said that the Knicks’ decision to forgo a banner is because they have “bigger goals in mind,” such as an NBA title.
Begley pointed out that the Knicks want to celebrate with their supporters before Friday’s home game against the Philadelphia 76ers because they don’t want to “diminish the accomplishment” and they are “very proud” of it.
The Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 in the final on Tuesday night in Las Vegas to win their first-ever NBA Cup.
The Los Angeles Lakers won the first NBA Cup, followed by the Milwaukee Bucks last season. This year was the third NBA Cup, and the Knicks are the third different team to win it.
Charania pointed out that the Knicks’ decision to not hang NBA Cup championship banners in their stadia is unusual because both the Lakers and the Bucks did.

The Knicks were behind by five points going into the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s NBA Cup championship game, but they overcame that deficit and ended up outscoring the Spurs by sixteen points in the closing session.
With 28 points, OG Anunoby led the Knicks, but guard Jalen Brunson won the NBA Cup MVP award after scoring 25 points, dishing out eight assists, and pulling down four rebounds in the championship game.
Superstar center Victor Wembanyama scored 18 points and pulled down six boards in the loss, while rookie Dylan Harper paced the Spurs with 21 points off the bench.
