College football fans were on the edge of their seats until the very end of the 2025 Sugar Bowl.
On Thursday night at Caesars Superdome, Ole Miss defeated Georgia 39–34 thanks to a 47-yard field goal by Lucas Carneiro that ended a deadlock with six seconds left (which was followed by a safety on the subsequent kickoff).
The Rebels defeated the No. 3 Bulldogs to advance to their first College Football Playoff semifinal following a month of turmoil following coach Lane Kiffin’s departure from the program.
By no means was Ole Miss’ victory an easy one.
After falling behind 21–12 at the half, the Rebels rallied in the fourth quarter under the direction of quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who threw two touchdown passes on consecutive drives. With nine minutes remaining, Ole Miss led 34–24.

Georgia then trimmed the deficit to three points with another score. With the game practically on the line, the Bulldogs regained possession of the ball when Ole Miss failed to score on their subsequent drive. With 55 seconds remaining, Georgia settled for a field goal to tie the game despite having three opportunities to score a touchdown close to the goal line.
With 20 seconds remaining, Chambliss made a huge pass to De’Zhaun Stribling for a 40-yard gain. In the end, this helped Ole Miss score the game-winning field goal. Chambliss had two touchdowns and 320 throwing yards at the end of the game.
In order to secure a ticket to the national championship game on January 19, Ole Miss will play No. 10 Miami in the Fiesta Bowl on January 8.
