After firing Sean McDermott this week, the Buffalo Bills are searching for a new head coach. This week, two positions have already been filled: former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was hired by the New York Giants, and former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was hired by the Atlanta Falcons.
Let’s check out each candidate
Joe Brady
This cycle, Brady has been interviewed by three different head coaches. He called a fantastic scoring offense this season and last, and he has a good rapport with Josh Allen and everyone else in the building.
The Bills hung 30 on a strong Broncos defense in the Divisional Round game despite making a ton of turnovers. If the refs hadn’t made a poor decision, the Bills would have been in position for a game-winning field goal. Brady would be the front-runner if there were betting odds for the next head coach of the Bills.
Bobby Babich
In league circles, Babich is a rising star. Despite having just been defensive coordinator for two seasons, he is likely too inexperienced for this call, but he has spent his whole career under McDermott preparing for it.
Brian Daboll
The Giants fired the former offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills in the middle of the season.
This offseason, he has been interviewing primarily with offensive coordinators, but Josh Allen, the quarterback, adores him and he has experience. He is close to both owner Terry Pegula and general manager Brandon Beane.
Davis Webb
In order to play one more season in the NFL, Webb, a former quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, turned down the Bills’ offer to become a quarterback coach in 2022. Before taking over as Sean Payton’s quarterback coach in Denver, he started his first NFL game in New York under Daboll.
Due to his work with Daboll, Payton, Josh Allen, and Bo Nix, he is a very attractive name on the offensive side of the ball and has been interviewed for several head coaching positions this cycle.
Interviews with him are not possible till after the AFC Championship Game.
Mike McDaniel
Combining Josh Allen with McDaniel, one of the top offensive minds available this cycle, might be really intriguing. McDaniel has a long history as a play creator and play caller, which Bills supporters sorely desired in 2025, even though he isn’t exactly viewed as a leader of men.
Mike Tomlin
Some may believe that Tomlin is the ideal kind of inspiration to help the Bills overcome their postseason deficit. He has stated that he is taking a year off from football, and since he is still under contract, the Bills would have to pay the Steelers if they hired him.
Given that Sean Payton cost the Broncos a first-round pick, a second-round pick the next year, and a potential third-round pick, it would probably be more than a first-round pick.
