Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Tez Johnson faces allegations of infidelity from his ex-fiancée, Laila Thompson-Wainer, who claims he contacted an ex-girlfriend with explicit messages on the same day he proposed to her.
In a TikTok video that surfaced Thursday, Thompson-Wainer detailed the proposal, describing it as a dreamlike event at a hillside venue complete with music and floral arrangements. “He gets down on one knee, he puts the ring on my finger. I just remember saying, ‘Oh, my cheeks hurt so much from smiling,’” she said. The couple then headed to the beach for photos and celebrated with sushi before returning home.

But Thompson-Wainer alleged Johnson’s actions that day were far from committed. She shared screenshots of direct messages purportedly sent by Johnson to his ex-girlfriend on Feb. 20 at 1:07 a.m. and Feb. 21 at 9:11 a.m. The first read: “What ever team I visit we can just meet there and when I come down there, I need to see you like idk what else to say I think we have to.” The second was more explicit: “Need your throat.”
“We went through the same day I did and he gets down on one knee, he proposes, we commit to each other for the rest of life, marriage, crazy concept,” Thompson-Wainer said in the video.
The couple announced their engagement on March 3, 2025, about two months before Johnson was selected by the Buccaneers in the seventh round of the NFL draft on April 26, 2025, out of the University of Oregon, where he transferred from Troy. Johnson, the adopted brother of Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, recorded 86 receptions for 1,182 yards and 10 touchdowns in his final college season.
Neither Johnson nor the Buccaneers have publicly responded to the allegations.
The video, reposted on X by NFL news aggregator Dov Kleiman, quickly drew reactions from users, ranging from shock to sarcasm.
