Jail Kitchen Worker Kelly Jo Johnson Arrested For Having Relations With Inmate

Well, meet Kelly Jo Johnson. A jail kitchen worker who somehow turned a regular workplace into what sounds like the most chaotic employee social network imaginable.

Johnson recently made headlines after being arrested for having relations with an inmate while working inside the jail. That alone would already be enough to land someone in serious trouble.

But according to reports, the situation didn’t stop there.

Investigators say Johnson was allegedly involved with multiple jail employees and inmates during her time working at the Walton County Jail.

Kelly Jo Johnson, 56, was hit with a charge of felony sexual misconduct between detention facility employees and inmates after an investigation unearthed the tawdry behind-bars affair.

Johnson was fired last week after working at the Walton County Jail for just five months, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

The extensive investigation — which kicked off after authorities were tipped off to the clandestine romance by an informant — looked at jail phone calls, surveillance video and involved a series of interviews.

In the end, “the investigation determined there was probable cause to believe Johnson engaged in unlawful physical contact with the inmate inside a secured area of the jail and communicated with him outside the scope of her duties using methods intended to evade monitoring,” WCSO said in a statement.

She turned herself in on Wednesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

This is what Sheriff Michael Adkinson had to say about the situation.

“These actions are a betrayal of the professionalism and ethical standards we expect of every employee.”

“When someone abuses their position of trust, we will take swift and decisive action. No one is above the law – civilian or sworn – who works at this agency.”

For Johnson, the consequences mean spending months behind bars at a place that probably looks very familiar, which has to be one of the strangest workplace reversals ever.
