The teenage son of former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts was overheard screaming at his mother that she had sex with his best friend following a chaotic, alcohol-fueled pool party last summer, according to explosive testimony Monday in the small-town politician’s ongoing criminal trial.
Roberts, who resigned as mayor of the Beauregard Parish city of roughly 9,800 residents just days before her arrest in 2024, faces two counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile. The charges stem from allegations that she had sex with a 16-year-old boy — her son’s close friend — at the party on July 20, 2024. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Key testimony came from Jill Weaver, Roberts’ best friend and former sister-in-law, who described the former mayor as “the most drunk she’d ever seen her” when Weaver arrived at the party around 8 p.m. Weaver left around 11 p.m., but was urgently called back by her own son shortly before 2 a.m. after Roberts accused the teenagers of secretly recording her with the underage boy.

Upon her return, Roberts reportedly snapped at Weaver, “Oh great, you called your mom.” The teens then showed their phones to both women to prove no videos existed, Weaver told jurors in Beauregard Parish court.
What followed was a frantic attempt at damage control, according to Weaver. She admitted texting her own son to “lie till you die” about the night and discussing with Roberts how to prevent the teenagers from reporting the alleged encounter to authorities. At one point, an emotional Roberts threatened self-harm, leaving Weaver in tears on the stand.
It was during this tense conversation that Roberts’ teenage son overheard the adults talking and confronted his mother directly.
“He was saying [Roberts] effed his best friend,” Weaver recalled, describing the boy’s outburst.
The son later told investigators he witnessed the alleged sexual encounter through a crack in a window, describing it as his mother “hooking up” with his pal. Roberts’ daughter also took the stand, testifying that she saw her mother and the 16-year-old “on top of each other.”
The trial has cast a harsh spotlight on the tight-knit community of DeRidder, where Roberts once held the highest elected office. The case has drawn local and national attention as graphic details of the pool-party scandal continue to emerge in court.
Prosecutors have not yet rested their case, and defense attorneys are expected to present their side in the coming days. Roberts has made no public statements beyond entering her not-guilty plea.
The allegations have shocked residents in the rural Louisiana town, where local politics and personal lives often intertwine. Court proceedings are ongoing, with potential prison time if Roberts is convicted on the felony charges involving the minor.
Weaver’s emotional testimony, delivered while fighting back tears, underscored the personal toll the incident has taken on the families involved. The former mayor’s son and daughter both provided accounts that painted a disturbing picture of the night’s events, according to records shown to the jury.
Legal experts following the case say the testimony from close family members could prove pivotal, especially given the direct confrontation between mother and son. The trial is expected to last several more days as additional witnesses are called.
