On Wednesday, Jason Kelce will cover the Par 3 competition at Augusta National as an on-course reporter. 91 of the world’s best golfers will compete for the coveted green jacket at Augusta National Golf Club in the 2026 Masters.
The Masters Par 3 Contest, which will take place on Wednesday before tournament play begins on Thursday, will feature, rather controversially, Jason Kelce‘s obviously huge and boisterous personality. After making his golf broadcasting debut for TGL earlier this month, ESPN sent Kelce to Augusta, where he is anticipated to play a similar role in the most renowned golf event of the year.
As part of ESPN’s coverage of the Par 3 Contest, the retired Eagles legend will be joining SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt and reporter Marty Smith. He will mostly conduct in-person interviews, which he is well accustomed to from co-hosting an extremely successful sports podcast.
Before the Masters, Jim Nantz, a legendary golf broadcaster, gave Kelce some helpful broadcasting tips on this week’s edition of New Heights.
During his guest spot on New Heights, Nantz informed Kelce:
“There’s two things you’re going to focus on here, O.K.?”
“Virtually everybody in that field is going to have a caddie that’s special to them, and more likely it’s going to be a family member, a child, a daughter or even a wife. So one is, what was that experience like? And two is, how do you feel about your game going into the tournament? That’s all you need to ask.
“Now maybe somebody knocks a hole in a hole in one and you might ask them about that. But I think people want to know what the week looks like for them and what that experience was like out on the Par 3 tournament. It’s unique, we don’t see anything like that the rest of the year. You don’t need to dig much deeper than that. This is a feel-good event, and you’re going to be the right guy to do that.”
Travis, Kelce’s brother, couldn’t help but offer his own advice as well: “Jason, don’t forget, keep your shirt on.”
A playful allusion to the ESPN analyst’s actions during a specific Chiefs-Bills game years ago, during which Nantz and CBS boothmate Tony Romo were also present.
