A substitute teacher in the Llano Independent School District has been arrested on a second-degree felony charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student, authorities said.
Angela Palmares, 27, was taken into custody Wednesday night in Bell County without incident and booked into the Bell County Jail on a $150,000 bond, according to the Llano County Sheriff’s Office. She was located with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety Fusion Center and the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest stems from allegations of inappropriate communications with Llano High School students through social media outside of school hours, officials said. The district reported the matter to the Llano County Sheriff’s Office on April 21 after becoming aware of the allegations. Palmares was immediately removed from the district’s list of available substitutes and had not worked in the district since early April, according to Superintendent Mac Edwards’ letter to families.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division conducted interviews and gathered evidence, leading to an arrest warrant the following day. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information or who believes they may be a victim to contact the Llano County Sheriff’s Office.
Llano ISD is cooperating with the sheriff’s office and the Texas Education Agency, Edwards said in the letter. The district said it takes such allegations seriously and remains committed to student safety.
Palmares has not been issued a Texas teaching certificate, according to state records.
