Tiger Woods Called Donald Trump For Help Before DUI Arrest

Golf legend Tiger Woods told a sheriff’s deputy he had just been on the phone with the president after rolling his SUV in a Florida crash last week, newly released body camera video shows.

Woods was arrested on a DUI charge following the single-vehicle rollover on March 27 in Jupiter Island. Body camera footage released Thursday by authorities captured the 50-year-old golfer walking away from a patrol car while appearing to speak on his phone.

In the video, Woods can be heard saying, “Thank you so much. All right. You got it. Bye.” When a deputy asked him to stay close, Woods replied, “Yeah, I was just talking with the president,” according to footage obtained by TMZ and aired by multiple outlets.

The call itself was not captured on video, and authorities have not confirmed the identity of the person on the other end of the line. President Donald Trump has described Woods as a close friend in recent comments about the incident. Woods is dating Vanessa Trump, the former wife of Donald Trump Jr.

Trump told the New York Post earlier this week that he had spoken with Woods after the crash and that the golfer was “doing great” despite living with significant physical pain from past injuries.

“He lives a life of pain,” Trump said. “He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy, an amazing athlete.”

Woods’ vehicle overturned on a narrow road in the upscale coastal community north of West Palm Beach. Deputies observed signs of impairment, and he was taken into custody. He was later charged with driving under the influence.

The golfer has a well-documented history of back and leg injuries from a career that includes 15 major championships. He has also faced previous legal issues related to driving, including a 2017 arrest in California on a DUI charge that was later reduced.

No further details about the content of the reported phone conversation have been released. Woods’ representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The body camera video also showed Woods mentioning to officers that he had been hoping to play in the Masters Tournament, which begins next week at Augusta National.

Woods has not commented publicly on the latest incident. His last competitive appearance was limited due to ongoing recovery from surgeries.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional information beyond the footage and arrest report.
