Just days after the internet did what it does best: zoom, speculate, and overanalyze, Dianna Russini already has a fresh job option sitting on the table.
In case you somehow missed it, Russini stepped down from The Athletic after photos involving Mike Vrabel went viral and turned timelines into detective agencies. Everyone had questions. Nobody had chill, and just like that, a respected reporter found herself in the middle of a full-blown internet circus.
Enter Jon “Stugotz” Weiner, who basically said, “Hey, if you need a job, I got you.” Casual, no big deal. Just a public job offer on his “Stugotz & Company” podcast like he was offering someone a ride home.
Now, before anyone starts connecting dots that don’t exist, Stugotz made it very clear: he is not here to explain anything, not defending, not apologizing and not acting as Russini’s spokesperson.
His exact energy? “It’s her story to tell, not mine.” Translation: y’all are doing too much.
“I did say if the Athletic fired her, I would hire her,” he said. “They didn’t fire her. She stepped down from the Athletic, and the offer holds forever.”
“If Dianna Russini decides one day, three months from now, a year from now, two years from now, that she wants to get back into this game, she has a place right here,” Weiner added.
“I’m not a journalist, I’m a talk show host,” he continued. “And when my real friends fall on some difficult times, I like to support my friends and talk to them and be someone that listens.
“Not talks, listens. This is her story to share when she feels like sharing it. It is not me.”
Simple, direct, no long interview process required.
So while the headlines keep spinning and the speculation refuses to retire, Russini has something a lot of people in viral situations don’t: an immediate next move.
And if nothing else, that’s a pretty solid reminder: in media, today’s scandal can quickly become tomorrow’s new gig.
