Another day, another teacher deciding school rules were apparently just “suggestions.” This time the spotlight lands on Maris Nichols, a 25-year-old biology teacher from Alexander High School in Douglasville, who was arrested after investigators accused her of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. And according to authorities, this wasn’t a one-time bad decision either.
Police say Nichols allegedly had sexual intercourse with the same student on at least two separate occasions over a two-week period. And somehow, investigators claim one of the locations involved was a classroom closet. Yes, a closet. Apparently the biology lessons were getting way too “hands-on.”
At this point, school closets deserve their own security guards because they keep showing up in stories they absolutely do not need to be part of. Somewhere, a janitor is probably thinking, “Can y’all please just use this room for mops and paper towels like normal people?”
The first alleged assault took place in a closet between classrooms at the high school on April 23, according to the warrants.
Then Nichols allegedly assaulted the same student inside a Hummer parked in a residential driveway in Douglasville.
“Upon learning of the alleged misconduct, the district immediately launched an investigation. Student safety is the district’s highest priority. The alleged behavior is unacceptable and violates the professional standards all employees are required to uphold,” the Douglas County School System said in a letter to parents.
The district announced early last week that a female teacher was placed on leave pending an investigation, but it never confirmed or specified if Nichols was the instructor in question.
The educator started as the football operations manager at Alexander High School in April 2023. She was hired as a biology teacher one month later and maintained both positions simultaneously, according to her LinkedIn.
She graduated from Liberty University, a private evangelical Christian school linked with the Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia, with a bachelor of science and a specialization in teaching.
