Becky Hammon Finally Says She Was Wrong About Jalen Brunson

Woman with blonde hair and glasses sits with a serious expression beside a man wearing mirrored sunglasses, holding a large gold basketball trophy with a crowd behind them.

At last, Becky Hammon is admitting that Jalen Brunson disproved her. The head coach of the Las Vegas Aces went back to her remarks regarding the star guard almost two years ago after Brunson led the New York Knicks to their first NBA title in over fifty years and won MVP of the NBA Finals.

Hammon began by responding to the criticism directed at her earlier assessment of Brunson. Hammon stated:

“Jalen, all he did was prove history wrong”. “He proves he’s an outlier, so you can put his name next to Steph Curry and Isiah Thomas. I thought he played brilliantly, especially down the stretch.

“I mean, he was that 1A dude. But apologize? I’m never going to apologize for having an opinion. That’s what ESPN pays me for.”

When Hammon questioned whether Brunson could be the best player on a championship team during an ESPN appearance in December 2023, she made waves by stating that the six-foot-two guard was not a “1A dude.”

Brunson gave the finest possible response. The Knicks star finished the NBA Finals with 45 points in New York’s championship-winning triumph over the San Antonio Spurs, capping one of the most spectacular postseason campaigns in team history.

After leading the Knicks to the championship in five games, he was eventually awarded Finals MVP.
