Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, complete with painted nails, is this year’s featured athlete on the “Madden NFL 27” cover, which was unveiled on Wednesday.
Both the normal and deluxe versions of the video game giant’s most recent entry in the series showcase the distinctive appearance of the 2024 No. 1 overall choice.
The cover of the normal edition features Williams finishing a mid-air throw over the cityscape of Windy City, while the deluxe version features him celebrating “Iceman” with personalized nail art that is influenced by Chicago, the Bears, and EA Sports.
Williams is not only the first Bears player to receive the nod, but it’s also safe to say that he is the first cover athlete to sport painted nails, which is awesome given that the accessory choice has previously been critiqued for not being “masculine” enough for a football team leader.
He is now boldly displaying them at one of the most significant occasions in his career, giving the haters the finger.
Williams stated:
“When I received the call from Madden, it was like my childhood dream was coming true. Being on the cover of Madden NFL 27 is a full circle moment,”
“I grew up playing Madden and imagining what it would be like to be part of the game. I know fans are going to love what’s new in this year’s game, and I’m looking forward to getting my rating up to a 99 by the end of the season.”
Williams, who will have a 90 rating, just finished a fantastic season in which he threw for over 3,900 yards and 27 touchdowns while winning the division and the postseason.
It’s a worthy choice for the cover and more evidence that a little nail paint never hurts.
