NFL expert Adam Schefter thinks the future Hall of Famer must make a crucial choice before the Rams report to training camp, as rumors of a possible Aaron Donald comeback continue to grow.
Schefter stated:
“It’s pretty simple. Aaron Donald has to make a decision before training camp about whether he’s willing to return to the Rams.”
That schedule would make sense to the majority of retired athletes. But Aaron Donald is definitely not like the majority of retiring athletes.
In addition to retiring while continuing to play at a high level, Donald’s bond with the team that recruited him is still quite strong.
Schefter stated:
“The Rams can certainly make [his return to play] appealing. “Where else is he going to be this appreciated, this celebrated, this wanted?”
Los Angeles would probably keep the door open for a variety of return situations if Donald ultimately decides he wants one more chance at a Super Bowl with recently acquired pass-rusher Myles Garrett.
Joining the team before to training camp would be the easiest choice. In advance of Week 1, that would enable Donald to do conditioning, reacclimate himself to football-related activities, and ramp up alongside the rest of the squad.
Returning closer to the start of the regular season would be a second option. The Rams have never been a team that is too preoccupied with conventional summer schedules, and Donald has maintained remarkable physical condition throughout retirement. It would not be hard to imagine a brief ramp-up period in August or September.
