Karmelo Anthony, Who Received a 35-Year Sentence for Murder, Files an Appeal

Karmelo Anthony intends to file an appeal after being found guilty of killing Austin Metcalf.

According to court documents that TMZ was able to obtain, Anthony submitted a notice of appeal. The action was taken less than a day after a Texas jury found him guilty of murder and subsequently sentenced him to 35 years in prison for the deadly stabbing during a track meet in Frisco, Texas.

TMZ was informed by Mike Howard, Karmelo’s attorney:

“After the conclusion of the trial yesterday, we gave the court our official notice that Karmelo Anthony is filing an appeal. We believe there are several important issues for the appellate courts to consider. An appeal is the next part of the legal process and a right afforded every American.”

After days of passionate testimony and closing arguments, the jury rejected Anthony’s self-defense claim and reached a guilty judgment on Tuesday.

From the time of his arrest, the case garnered national attention, and he was later sentenced to 35 years in prison.

The appeal is only the most recent event in Anthony’s hectic life. As we’ve previously reported, he is being kept in isolation until authorities decide on his long-term placement.

Despite the conviction, support for him hasn’t diminished in the interim. His family is preparing for a protracted appeals battle, donations from supporters have kept coming in, and even Cardi B has joined the discussion by voicing her opinions on social media following the guilty decision.
