Nia Long Recalls Turning Down Prince And Later Regretting It

We all have that one moment in life that keeps us awake at 2 a.m. Maybe it was sending a text to the wrong person, maybe it was buying Bitcoin too late, or maybe, if you’re Nia Long, it was accidentally rejecting Prince before realizing he was, well, Prince.

Talk about fumbling the bag. During a recent interview, Nia shared a hilarious story from before she became a Hollywood star. Back then, she was just living life when a mysterious guy tried to get her attention.

Instead of thinking, “Wow, that’s Prince,” she basically responded with, “Yeah, I’m good.”

The problem? She had absolutely no idea who he was.

Imagine telling one of the greatest musicians of all time, “No thanks,” simply because you didn’t recognize him. Somewhere, the universe probably paused for a second just to laugh.

Years later, Nia had become a successful actress and finally met Prince again. Surely this was the perfect Hollywood reunion, right? Not exactly.

This time, the tables had turned.

According to Nia, Prince wasn’t interested anymore.

That’s right. The man had moved on, and suddenly she was the one thinking, “Wait… hold on a second.”

According to Nia Long;

“He grabbed my hand. Then we got to the car and my hating a** girlfriend at the time goes ‘Girl you know that was Prince?,’ I go ‘Why didn’t you tell me before I left the building??’… If I knew it was Prince, I would have turned around and said ‘Hello.’”

Prince, of course, wasn’t exactly known for chasing people. The legendary singer had no shortage of admirers throughout his incredible career. If someone wasn’t interested, he simply kept it moving.

The story also shows how unpredictable life can be. One moment you’re brushing someone off because you don’t know who they are, the next moment you’re realizing they are one of the most talented artists to ever pick up a microphone.

Timing really is everything.

In the end, Nia can laugh about it now, and fans certainly are, because if you’re going to have a dating regret, you might as well make it legendary.
