Soccer is supposed to be about goals, drama, and last-minute winners, but in Ecuador, it briefly turned into something closer to a low-budget action comedy involving a runaway medical cart.
A match in the LigaPro Serie B between LDU Portoviejo and El Nacional came to a very strange halt after a pitchside medical vehicle decided it had main character energy.
The chaos started after an injured Portoviejo player was being escorted off the field. Everything looked normal, calm even. The kind of moment where players wave to the crowd and hope their hamstring is just “a little tight.”
Then things went off script. The medical cart, tasked with safely transporting the injured player, suddenly turned into what can only be described as a four-wheeled surprise attack.

While midfielder Edison Caicedo was standing near the sideline chatting with a coach, the cart came rolling through like it was late for another appointment.
The 36-year-old flew straight into the moving vehicle as he spun around, seemingly smacking his right knee on it before going tumbling to the floor.
The coaches on the sideline quickly expressed their fury with the driver, who appeared to protest his innocence while also apologizing for the comical accident.
Fans were left in disbelief on social media, with one asking: ‘Don’t those little carts have a horn?’
But another user argued: ‘Not ran over, he walked into the cart and flopped’.
While a third put: ‘Dude walked straight into the cart without even looking’.
Fortunately, Caicedo eventually returned to his feet before finishing the final 20 minutes of the match.
In the end, the game moved on, the cart was presumably given a stern talking-to, and players were reminded that in football, danger can come from anywhere, even the medical team.
