Giannis Antetokounmpo on Why He Didnʼt Marry a Model and Why His Wife Mariah is Just Fine

Mariah Riddlesprigger, Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s wife, is “the real MVP” and his pillar of support. He often commends her for protecting his four children, keeping him modest, and telling him the truth when he needs to hear it.

When Mariah was an intern for the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas in 2014 or 2015, the couple initially became acquainted. Giannis recently revealed that he knew she would be his wife right away. He invited her to Miami during the All-Star break after making a quick but fruitless attempt to speak with her in Las Vegas. He knew they were meant to be as soon as she arrived and spent time with his family.

With colleague Khris Middleton acting as best man, the couple formally sealed the knot in a secret, multi-day ceremony in Greece in August 2024 after more than ten years of dating and four children.

In response to critics who said Giannis ought to have wed a model, he publicly defended Mariah, saying:

“I’ve heard so many things. ‘Why is Giannis with this wife? He could be with a model. Not one model but ten!’ But I am with my wife because she tells me the truth. She loves me, she will tell me whenever I do anything wrong. She will tell my kids the truth. I know that she will kill for my kids and she would even kill me for them. I know that she won’t let my kids get a big head, and that’s the most important thing for me. I am in love. I am in love with her. As a woman and as a mother.”

Well in these days of Baby Mamas and Baby Oils, here lies a man who loves a simple lovely woman. Kudos to Giannis!
