Tim Tebow is staying at ESPN. Apparently, somebody at the network still has a working pen.
The former Florida Gators star has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with ESPN. He will remain a college football analyst. This comes at a time when the network has been making layoffs that affected several familiar faces, including Ryan Clark and Cam Newton.
So, while some ESPN personalities are packing their bags, Tebow is apparently unpacking his. Life comes at you fast.
Tebow is a two-time NCAA national champion and the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner. He also had a memorable NFL career. Now, he has found a comfortable home in the broadcast booth.
According to a press release from ESPN PR, Tebow will continue his work on “SEC Nation.” The SEC Network pregame show has become one of his regular stops. He will also continue providing analysis for ESPN’s College Football Playoff programming.
And that is not all. Tebow will remain involved with “College Football Live,” “SportsCenter,” and other ESPN programs. Basically, if there is a big college football conversation happening somewhere at ESPN, there is a decent chance Tebow will be nearby.
“I love this game and getting to talk about it every Saturday with the crews on SEC Network and ESPN is a gift I don’t take lightly,” Tebow said in the release. “SEC fans bring a passion that never gets old, and I’m grateful I get to keep doing this alongside people who feel like family.”
ESPN hired Tebow for SEC Network in December 2013, eight months before the channel officially launched prior to the 2014 college football season.
He’s been with the network ever since. It’s no surprise that ESPN sought Tebow out, considering that he’s one of the most iconic SEC football players in the league’s history and one of college football’s biggest names in recent memory.
Over the course of his four Florida seasons, Tebow accounted for 88 passing touchdowns and 57 rushing scores. He also guided Florida to a 35-6 record during his three seasons as Florida’s starter.
So, while ESPN continues to reshape its lineup, Tebow has secured his spot.
Ryan Clark and Cam Newton may have moved on from the network, but Tebow is sticking around.
