Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested early Sunday on drunken driving charges, hours after making his first appearance in a Colts uniform.
Allen, 34, was taken into custody shortly after 1 a.m. in downtown Indianapolis after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers conducted a traffic investigation in the 100 block of South Meridian Street, just south of Monument Circle, according to police and jail records.
Officers said they observed a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone and approached the driver. Police said Allen showed “signs of intoxication.” After further investigation, he was arrested.
Jail records list two preliminary misdemeanor charges: operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol concentration of .08 or higher, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated while endangering a person. Indiana typically refers to such offenses as OWI.
Allen was being held Sunday morning at the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center. Police emphasized that an arrest and charge are accusations and that Allen should be considered innocent unless proven guilty in court. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
The Colts issued a brief statement:
“We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night. We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”
The arrest came hours after Allen played in the Colts’ preseason finale Saturday night, a 25-16 home loss to the Detroit Lions. The six-time Pro Bowler caught one pass for 24 yards in limited action and said afterward he was excited to get back on the field as he begins his 14th NFL season.
Allen signed a one-year contract with Indianapolis earlier this month after the team announced the deal Aug. 19. He spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Chargers, played 2024 with the Chicago Bears, then returned to Los Angeles last season and finished with 81 receptions for 777 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games.
Allen ranks among the NFL’s most productive receivers of his era, with 1,055 career receptions, 12,051 receiving yards and 70 touchdown catches entering 2026.
The incident is a developing story. No additional details were immediately available on whether anyone else was in the vehicle or on Allen’s exact blood-alcohol level.
