Dave Portnoy thinks Tony Romo, who was put on leave after his OWI arrest, has called his final NFL game for CBS. Last month, Romo was detained in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on suspicion of operating while intoxicated (OWI).
Romo’s $18 million annual contract and performance-based factors are thought to have played a role in the network’s decision to suspend him. In recent years, the legendary Dallas Cowboys player has also come under fire for his performance, and JJ Watt is expected to take his place.
Additionally, Romo would “never get his job back” during his prolonged absence, according to Dave Portnoy, creator of Barstool Sports. On Barstool Mornings on FS1, Portnoy stated:
“Duh, [CBS] wanted to get rid of Romo. This decision was made within 0.2 seconds of this incident happening, so they were clearly looking for an out, and Romo led them through the door,”
“[This is a] no-brainer: if they thought Romo was doing a good job and they wanted to keep him, Romo would keep his job… Guys have survived way more than this with no issue.
“They wanted to get rid of him, no doubt.”
“He’ll never get his job back.
“He may be at CBS because maybe, I don’t know what the legality of it is, but he will never get that No. 1 chair back. Never.”
The duration of Romo’s leave is unknown. However, according to ESPN, Watt will temporarily replace Romo in the booth.
Romo’s future has not received much attention from CBS, which has only released a one-sentence statement stating that he is on indefinite leave.
Romo is scheduled to appear in court on September 21 but has not responded to the accusation.
