Jaafar Jackson is not wasting any time.
After making a big splash in “Michael,” the biopic about his legendary uncle Michael Jackson, the 30-year-old actor has already landed his next major movie role. Apparently, Hollywood said, “One movie is enough to get started.”
Jackson is set to appear in “Supermax,” an upcoming action movie from Amazon MGM Studios. The project already has some serious star power attached to it.
Will Smith is leading the movie. AnnaSophia Robb is also part of the cast. And now Jaafar is joining the party.
Not bad for an actor still building his résumé.
Supermax sounds like the kind of movie where people run, fight, yell and probably break several things that were perfectly fine five minutes earlier.
The new movie is directed by David Gordon Green (The Exorcist: Believer, Halloween) and will stream exclusively on Prime Video across the world, with filming set to begin in mid-August. A synopsis for the movie PEOPLE obtained in May describes the film as “a propulsive and twist-laden action thriller that follows two FBI agents investigating a murder that’s taken place in the world’s most secure prison.”
Robb, 32, will also portray an FBI agent at the center of the movie alongside Smith’s character Rex. She confirmed news of her casting on July 21 when she shared an article to her Instagram and wrote, “Extremely grateful. Extremely pumped. Extremely ready to kick some a$$,” in a caption.
Jaafar made his screen acting debut playing his own uncle in Michael, which is currently the second-highest-grossing movie of 2026 worldwide and the fourth highest-grossing movie this year in North America, as of Aug. 3. Jaafar — one of Jermaine Jackson‘s seven children — has said that he “never dreamed to be an actor” before the opportunity to audition for Michael arose. He was introduced as the actor who would portray the late King of Pop in in January 2023.
For Jaafar, though, this could be the perfect next step.
He has already tackled one of the most challenging roles imaginable.
Hollywood has officially entered the Jaafar Jackson era.
And judging by this casting, the era may come with plenty of explosions.
