Days before Elijah Bieniemy was charged with shooting his mother, Eric and Mia Bieniemy allegedly denied him access to firearms. The 27-year-old apparently called the police to protest about this.
Elijah reportedly informed authorities on July 24 that his parents were “withholding” his guns, according to The Athletic. stating that he had to be prepared to defend himself because he was “a certified UFC fighter.” Notably, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that Bieniemy is connected to the well-known MMA group.
Elijah stated over the phone that his parents would only let him stay at their Virginia house if he turned in his guns. That didn’t work out, he said, since when he tried to go to the gun range, they wouldn’t give them to him.
The Bieniemy family was allegedly the subject of two other calls before to the killing, one on June 22 about a “suspicious circumstance” at their home.
The other occurred on June 26, a few days later, when Elijah’s wellbeing was asked by a college counselor. According to the investigation, because Elijah did not have access to firearms, the officers did not view the situation as critical.
The son of the Kansas City Chiefs coach was accused of discharge of a handgun, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and malicious wounding.
