Bronny James may be entering the new Lakers season single. And Parker Whitfield’s parents seem to have noticed.
The young couple had been dating since at least October 2024. That was when Bronny and Parker made their relationship Instagram official, but they may have been together longer.
The two reportedly met in high school, so this was not exactly a random swipe-right situation.
Then August arrived. Bronny and Parker reportedly unfollowed each other on social media, and everyone knows what that usually means.
Something changed. Neither side needed to hold a press conference. The unfollow button basically did the talking.
Now Parker’s parents have added some extra flavor to the story.
While celebrating their daughter’s birthday, they shared sweet messages about Parker. They praised her, celebrated her growth and wished her well.
Sounds innocent, right? Well, social media users thought they spotted something else.
Some fans interpreted parts of the birthday messages as subtle digs at Bronny.

Nothing was said directly. There was no “Dear Bronny” at the beginning. Just a few carefully chosen words that had people raising their eyebrows.
Whitfield celebrated her 22nd birthday earlier this week. And the social media posts her parents made about it seemed to throw subtle shade at Bronny.
Parker’s father, actor Dondré Whitfield, celebrated his daughter’s birthday by posting two selfies of them together on Instagram. In the post’s caption he signed off by writing, “The forever man in your life.”
This sounds like the sort of thing a father would say to reassure his daughter after she had gone through a breakup.
For Parker, the birthday appears to be about celebrating another year and moving forward.
Her parents made sure she received plenty of love.
And if there was some subtle shade mixed into those messages, well, that is between them and their Instagram captions.
Parker’s mother, Hollywood producer Salli Richardson-Whitfield, made a post of her own that also seemed to throw shade at Bronny.
In her post’s caption, she wrote, “Don’t ever worry about the people who are incapable of seeing what a shining star you are because your world is gonna be filled with so much love and light, all the negative things will fall to the curb.”
Welcome to modern dating!
