Eric DeCosta, general manager of the Baltimore Ravens, voiced optimism on Wednesday that the team will be able to extend quarterback Lamar Jackson‘s deal before March.
DeCosta stated:
“I’m optimistic”. “I feel good about it.”
“We would love to get a deal done as soon as possible.”
“Lamar and I have a pact — as you all know, I’ve said probably 50 times — we’re not going to talk about business publicly”. “And it’s a different type of negotiation because it’s a different type of negotiation with Lamar.”
“We’ve been in this position before”. “I think it’s just communication, right? Lamar and I have a great relationship, and we talk. That’s what it really amounts to — communication.”
After the 2027 season, Jackson, 29, will be an unrestricted free agency with two years remaining on his current contract. Jackson’s $84.34 million salary cap number in 2027 is the third highest in the NFL, thus it would be advantageous for Baltimore to reach a new agreement with him before free agency begins.
DeCosta declined to elaborate on why he is optimistic about coming to a deal with the two-time NFL MVP.
