Wide receiver A.J. Brown stated in an interview that he and Jalen Hurts weren’t as close as they were during the previous season with the Philadelphia Eagles following his trade to the New England Patriots in June.
Hurts acknowledged that Brown’s remark was accurate in an interview with GQ magazine, but not before being asked for an explanation. When asked if he and Brown had drifted away, Hurts responded to GQ as follows:
“There’s no surprise that it was talked about,” “I mean, clearly,”

The question of whether the two had grown apart was then posed to him once more. On the “7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony” podcast in June, Maria Taylor of NBC Sports questioned Brown about his relationship with Hurts during his last season with the Eagles.
Brown informed reporters that he and Hurts had not spoken since the deal during the Eagles and Patriots’ joint workouts in Foxborough, Massachusetts, last month. But the next day, at the second of the teams’ two workouts, the two former teammates were spotted catching up.
Hurts and Brown have a lengthy relationship that began when Hurts took Brown on a recruiting tour while he was an Alabama student. Hurts became the godfather of Brown’s daughter, Jersee, after they became close enough to work out together during the off-season.
Together, they had four successful seasons in Philadelphia, including back-to-back seasons in which Brown had more than 1,400 receiving yards and a Super Bowl victory following the 2024 campaign.
