Ex-NBA Player Paul Pierce Reveals He’s Struggling Financially After Princess Santiago Asks For $40k in Child Support

Paul Pierce once made millions playing professional basketball. Now, the former NBA champion says he is struggling to keep up with his bills after losing his job at Fox Sports. Yes, even basketball legends can discover that life gets uncomfortable when the money stops coming in.

Pierce, who earned a reputation as one of the greatest players, is reportedly describing himself as financially “tapped out.” His current financial troubles allegedly involve keeping up with court-ordered support payments without the income he previously received from Fox Sports.

Apparently, winning an NBA championship does not automatically unlock unlimited money for the rest of your life.

According to court docs, obtained by TMZ, Paul claims his last check from Fox Sports came in August. He said his average monthly income was $119K, but now it is zero. He said he earned around $23K last month from his partnership interests in other business ventures.

The issue is simple. Bills do not care about your basketball legacy. Rent, mortgages, taxes, and other expenses still expect payment whether you are sitting courtside or watching games from your sofa.

And court-ordered support payments are another serious responsibility. Those obligations do not simply disappear because a television network decides to move in another direction.

Paul said he pays around $28K in child support and another $20K in spousal support per month … but claims he only has $300K in the bank and $3 million in property.

He says he spends around $48K a month in bills, including $8K in childcare, $5K in groceries, $7K on eating out, $3,200 on utilities, $1K on clothes, $3,500 on entertainment, and various other expenses.

Paul is asking the court to shut down his ex-GF Princess Santiago’s request for $40K in legal fees and another $10K for a forensic accountant. She claimed Paul was playing games about his financial records … and wanted an expert to review his finances.

Pierce’s situation offers a lesson for athletes and ordinary people alike. A large paycheck does not guarantee financial security.
Spending habits, ongoing obligations, and unexpected career changes can affect anyone.

In his filing, Paul’s attorney said Paul would have “great difficulty” paying these fees since his Fox Sports contract was terminated … adding that he was “drowning financially” and having trouble keeping up with the monetary obligations

Princess’ request for additional funds came after Paul was ordered to pay Princess $8,508 per month in temporary child support for their son, King. He was also ordered to pay $100K in legal fees.

For now, Pierce’s reported struggle shows that even former NBA champions can face difficult financial moments.

The bottom line?

Basketball fame might last forever, but a paycheck will not, and unfortunately, the bills never seem interested in giving anyone a championship discount.
