Could the Terrell Suggs era really be coming to an end in Baltimore?
Suggs is about to enter the final year of his contract with the Ravens, and he’ll carry a $12.4 million cap number in 2014. Newsome said Wednesday that the team needs to discuss what to do about the franchises sack master.
Reports are that Suggs would like to negotiate an extension with the team and Newsome said at the press conference that he’s open to extending a player heading into the final year of his deal according to CSN Baltimore.
He is entering the final year of his deal, with a base salary of $7.8 million. The Ravens may approach Suggs about restructuring, adding years, but reducing the salary cap number for next season. That would give the Ravens more financial flexibility during free agency. But if the Ravens ask Suggs to restructure, whether he and the Ravens can agree on a price remains to be seen.
Newsome also said he wasn’t afraid to let a player walk, and that Suggs was a lot less productive in the second half of the 2013 season than he was while registering nine sacks in the first eight games.
