Things are getting messy down in Memphis. As first reported by the Star Tribune, the Grizzlies have given the Timberwolves permission to interview their Head Coach, Dave Joerger:
The Wolves have been given permission to talk to Memphis coach Dave Joerger and will probably do so by the end of the week, according to a league source.
Bottom line, according to the source: Joerger wants out and Grizzlies ownership wants him out, but Joerger doesn’t want to leave the rest of his multi-year contract on the table and the team doesn’t want to pay him off.
The second part of that is quite important. My feeling is that since neither Joerger or the team want him in Memphis, they will find a way for him to leave. Joerger is going to want at least some of his money though. The bigger question is what is going on down in Memphis? They fired their CEO and assistant general manager last week and even hired Joerger under some controversy.
They have a lot of issues for what’s been a pretty good team lately.
