According to Phil Jackson, if Carmelo Anthony is a man of his word then he is confident he will stay in New York.
“We have every confidence that Carmelo is good for what his word is, that he wants to be in New York, he likes playing in New York, he wants to compete, he wants to be part of a playoff team that is competitive toward a championship.”
It seems like Jackson is implying Melo would be a liar if he decides to take his talents elsewhere. Melo probably wants to be in New York but would also love to be in Houston, Dallas, or Chicago. Phil’s comments are nothing more than a manipulative tactic to get the New York fan base to turn on Carmelo if he doesn’t return to the Knicks next season.
