The Ray Rice domestic violence issue is not going away quietly like the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell would like. In fact, one of the highest powers in the United States has decided to get involved in the matter.
The United States Congress has decided the issue of domestic violence is so pressing in the NFL that they have taken steps to resolve the matter. The House Judiciary Committee has written letter to Goodell questioning the steps the NFL took to resolve the matter. As the letter states:
“…to our knowledge the public has not been informed as to specifically how and in what context the request [for the video] was made, and specifically how relevant law enforcement responded.”
This doesn’t look good for Goodell. When Congress gets involved, it means there has been some sort of feeling that there was a collapse in the system that prevented the league from doing proper due diligence. We have seen the effects of the government getting involved in the MLB PED’s scandal. If Congress gives a hard look at domestic violence in the NFL, it won’t be a good outcome for the NFL and many players still on active rosters.
