Former Texas Longhorns great and Bears running back Cedric Benson was arrested in Austin and charged with public intoxication after aruging with a woman in a Austin taxi cab.
Austin police records say there was a “verbal disturbance between a male and a female in a cab,” leading to Benson’s arrest.
Benson was charged with public intoxication, Stefan said. “A lot of the times we make those arrests if we are not able to find alternative forms of transportation,” Stefan said, speaking generally about public intoxication arrests.
Benson was booked at the Travis County Jail at 5:22 a.m. Saturday, according to Travis County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lisa Block. He was released at 9 a.m. A mugshot was not immediately available, Block said.
