Floyd Mayweather turned 34 yesterday and as you can see his birthday cake lives up to his “Money” moniker.
The question begs is Mayweather past his prime and is that the reason why he hasn’t fought Manny Pacquiao? It isn’t unusual for boxers to thrive in their mid to late 30s, but for uniquely skilled fighters when it goes, it goes quickly.
Mayweather besides a shaky 2nd round against Shane Mosley, was dominant and has rarely been in trouble in a fight for a decade, but if you are really a student of the sweet science you can see subtle slippage in Mayweather.
Similar to a great basketball player he makes up for what he is losing in skill with the mental aspect of the game. My suggestion to him would be to beat Pacquiao collect his 50 million and bow out gracefully.
I think he is fearful, that like Roy Jones if Pacquiao beats him that it will take a lot of luster off his legacy. He is correct in that assessment, but would he rather have a perfect record with the question always lingering over his head that he was afraid to fight Pacquaio or go out guns blazing win, lose or draw?
I’ll let you ponder that.
