DeMarre Carroll scored 24 points to help the Hawks defeat Brooklyn in Game 5 107 to 97. Carroll looked like an All Star, going 8-15 with 7 rebounds. Al Horford and Jeff Teague came in big tonight also for the Hawks, scoring 20 points apiece, as top-seeded kept their dreams of moving to the second round alive to take a 3-2 series lead.
This series has been closer than anyone could imagine, with the Nets battling the Hawks until the final buzzer of each game.
With a dislocated finger, Horford added 15 rebounds to help the Hawks win the rebound battle over Brooklyn 43 to 35.
The Nets battled back from a 17 point deficit with the help of backup players Alan Anderson and Jarrett Jack. Jack had 18 points and 6 assists while Anderson had 23 points (9-11) and 7 rebounds.
The Hawks can finish the series on Friday in Brooklyn however the Nets have other plans.
“We fought an uphill battle all night and we look forward to Friday,” said Jack.
The Hawks backups did not perform well at all tonight, which is part of the reason why Coach Budenholzer allowed the starters to play the entire 4th quarter. Pero Antic had 8 points and 4 rebounds and led the backups in points. The only two players that scored from the Hawks bench were Kent Bazemore (2 points) and Denis Schroder (6 points).
