Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril was having an excellent Superbowl XLIX performance before suffering a concussion midway through the third quarter that would have him out for the rest of the game.
With Avril out the Seahawks couldn’t get the same pass rush on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and eventually lost the Superbowl on a heartbreaking interception courtesy of rookie defensive back Malcolm Butler.
Hayes Rule of the Macon Telegraph spoke with Avril on the concussion during Superbowl XLIX.
“It was real disappointing,” Avril said, via the Macon Telegraph. “All of us are competitors; all of us want to be out there to help our team win in any kind of way. For me not to be able to finish one of the biggest games you’ll ever play in, it sucked. But at the same time, I’m glad the docs decided to not put me back in. Concussions aren’t anything to play with.”
With a healthy Avril you would have to think maybe the Seahawks don’t give up the 10 point lead heading into the fourth quarter and that interception never happens.
The 2015-16 Seattle Seahawks are back at full health and added superstar tight end Jimmy Graham to bolster their offense, giving Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson another weapon to go to at the end of games.
