Before anybody is led to believe that there is a feud brewing between the two most talented coaches in the West, allow me to assure you there is not.
Steve Kerr played under Coach Pop for four seasons and even won a couple rings together (1999 and 2003).
The two consider each other close friends now, which makes sense, because only close friends can make fun of each other like this.
“You look at what San Antonio did getting Aldridge, I mean if they don’t win the whole thing next year it’s clearly the coach’s fault.”
Most betting lines have San Antonio and Golden State right up there with the Cleveland Cavaliers as the three teams favored to win the title next season. Adding LaMarcus Aldridge to the mix gives the Spurs a real shot at dethroning the Warriors in 2016-17.
Kerr continued:
“I mean if Pop can’t win the whole thing with that roster then he has no business coaching in this league.”
Ding ding ding! End of round 1- Steve Kerr just laid Coach Pop flat on the mat with a devastating hook that he never saw coming.
Pop didn’t become one of the most respected and intimidating figures in the League by allowing (relatively) young guns like Kerr run their mouths, though.
We’ll see if Pop will have a response via the media or if he’ll choose to privately get back at Kerr.
Either way, you can bet retaliation for that joke is coming in some form or another. Maybe it’ll come in one of his patented angry stares.
