Nick Young doesn’t figure in as a huge factor for the Lakers immediate future — so maybe a playoff team could use a shooter and good energy guy off the bench.
Swaggy P is averaging career lows in points (7.2) and shooting percentage (35.4) — and he told the L.A. Daily News that he’s not opposed to being traded to a playoff team — and started to warn some of Lakers teammates about a possible move.
“‘I want you to remember me for something in case I’m gone,’” Young recalled saying to other players in an interview with Los Angeles News Group.
The Lakers (11-44) do not resume practice until Wednesday as part of the break from NBA All-Star weekend. But Young will spend this week beforehand consumed with his uncertain future before the NBA trade deadline ends on Thursday.
“I’ll be lying if I said I’m not hearing anything,” Young said. “I don’t know if anything’s going to happen. But I’m being prepared and hoping for the best.”
Young stressed he’s “not hoping for anything,” whether it involves the Lakers retaining him or trading him. But his eyes perked up at the possibility of a postseason-bound team adding secondary scoring to fuel a deep run.
“I would love to be on a playoff team and not just be sitting and watching,” Young said. “I would love to be in a playoff atmosphere and be a part of it.”
Young is not a favorite of head coach Byron Scott’s — and could benefit from a change in scenery. We will see what happens.
