The Seahawks are hoping to resurrect the career of Brandon Browner as they reunite the championship Legion of Boom with a one-year contract.
Browner left Seattle and joined New England in 2014 and was a pivotal piece of that fateful play that Seahawks fans don’t want to remember. Browner then signed a long-term deal with New Orleans in 2015, but after an embarrassing year as a team overall last season, he was released.
Browner says he tore his MCL in the first preseason game and returned before he was totally healthy and that caused his sub-par play. Quote thanks to The Seattle Times:
How my season started last year, tore my MCL in the first pre season game. But I kept positive minds set trying to get back for week 1 of regular season. Anyone who has tore something in the knee knows the little muscles around the knee go dead. So your recovery is things to strengthen that area and get the muscles to firing again. Anyways I come back wearing a knee brace because my injury wasn’t completely held. I never wanted to make an excuse, so I played thru it.
Browner was blamed for a lot of New Orlean’s failures on defense, rightfully so with the 24 penalties that were called against him. He was also a part of a record-setting defense for all the wrong reasons. They broke records for touchdown passes allowed and opposing quarterback rating. Sean Payton compared his situation to a QB with a bad offensive line. Quote thanks to ESPN:
“For us to have had success, one of those things last year defensively was for him to have played well and us to have given him a chance to play well. Because he’s a leader that’s wanting to lead,” Payton said. “And it’s hard when you’re becoming a target, it’s hard to do that. But I think there were a lot of hands in that specifically. No different than the quarterback that’s not getting the time [in the pocket to scan the field and throw].”
The signing should impact both sides positively. Experience in a system can be very important, ala James Jones. He looks like a totally different player with Green Bay. A healthy Brandon Browner with a fierce defensive line will cast him in a much different light.
His teammates welcomed him back with open arms on Twitter:
