17-year old daughter of President Barack Obama, Malia, will be attending Harvard in the fall of 2017. Details via The Washington Post:
In a statement released by the East Wing on Sunday, President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama announced that Malia “will take a gap year before beginning school.” This means she will attend Harvard in the fall of 2017 as a member of the Class of 2021.
There was no comment on the reason for the gap year, but you have to love that they are doing what they think is right without any thought of how it could be perceived. It’s a terribly hard decision to have to make when you’re that young, but having supporting parents makes all the difference.
Malia has been diving into some of her interests early to see what she really loves:
The first daughter’s standardized test scores and grade-point average are not known, but Malia’s interest in film is widely known. (She has interned for the CBS series “Extant” and HBO’s “Girls”). In the past, the Obamas have described their firstborn as scholarly — an “avid reader,” her mother said; the kind of student who was unhappy with average grades, her father said.
The Obama’s have said they will stay in the area even after they leave the White House so that 14-year old Sasha can finish high school.
