Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich continued his criticism of Donald Trump on Monday evening before his team took on the Pacers. According to Bob Kravitz of WTHR, Pop was asked about his childhood growing up in Indiana and used the question to delve into more broad political topics. Pop was quoted as saying:
Some days, I feel like we’ve been invaded by another power and taken over [by people] who don’t feel the same. It’s a strange land.
Pop is on record as being highly critical of Donald Trump and his campaign rhetoric and tactics, on Monday referring to them as “unacceptable and really disgusting.” The Spurs frontman has never been shy about speaking his mind and should be commended. It’s interesting that in a league with thirty head coaches, Pop and Stan Van Gundy are the only ones who feel free and comfortable enough to speak out against Trump.
Of course you will have those people who say “stick to sports” but that’s not a thing. As a citizen of this country, you are allowed to actively engage in the way you and your fellow citizens are governed, regardless of your profession. In fact it is your right.
