For the record, I’m scratching my arm as I type this story.
An Augustus resident, so upset that he didn’t qualify for assistance, brought bed bugs to City Hall and released them.
According to WNEP ABC 16 the unidentified man went to the code enforcement office on Friday to complain about bed bugs at his former apartment. He showed the cup of the bugs to a manager at his new apartment and was told he couldn’t live there.
When he returned to the Augusta City Center, he was told he did not qualify for assistance he became angry and threw the plastic cup filled with approximately 100 bedbugs on the counter of the General Assistance office at Augusta City Center on Friday, causing officials to close the building and summon pest control.
“He whipped out a cup (full of live bedbugs) and slammed it on the counter, and bam, off they flew, maybe 100 of them,” City Manager William Bridgeo told the newspaper.
The workers began immediately scooping up and bagging any bugs they could see.
“There were some that were crawling on the counter. Some were dead..So there were well in excess of 100 live and dead bugs that some, like I said were crawling away.”
After recovering from shock and disgust, employees called police who ultimately found the man.
“Our general assistance staff member initially thought it was coffee grounds that he had dumped on the counter. And then some of the coffee grounds started moving.”
Let’s all go bleach everything.
