DeSean Jackson is trying to get paid, but he won’t get paid if he is hurt. Especially when the Eagles just handed Michael Vick a ton of money and he is being held together with Duct Tape.
Pro Football Talk has the details.
“Whether I have the ball in my hands or not, I feel like I already established myself in this league as one of the great receivers,” Jackson said Thursday, via PhillySportsDaily.com. “I just gotta go out there and keep doing what I can do. Stay healthy is the biggest thing. As long as I can stay healthy, regardless of where I’m playing, I think I’ll be all right. Just stay healthy and go out there and do my thing.”
Um, what about winning games?
“That’s the No. 1 priority is to stay healthy,” Jackson said. “I wouldn’t be able to play the game if I wasn’t healthy. In my book, that’s the No. 1 priority. Winning is next in that category. As long as I’m healthy and we’re winning, regardless of my numbers, I think I’ll be very happy.”
DeSean Jackson isn’t a great receiver. He is an exciting receiver, but I don’t think overall he is even better than his teammate Jeremy Maclin.
Maclin might not be as flashy, but when you need a 3rd and 10 to keep a drive alive it appears that Vick keys in on Maclin not Jackson. Not saying that Jackson isn’t a very good player. He is extremely talented and has a high opinion of himself, but people use the word “great” a little too freely in my opinion.
Calvin Johnson is great, Larry Fitzgerald is great, Desean Jackson is very good and there is a big difference.
While Jackson’s answer about staying healthy wasn’t politically correct, at least it was honest. I have never seen anything to suggest that Jackson doesn’t play hard or doesn’t care about winning. On the contrary I think he plays very hard. I am never going to get on someone for telling the truth.
He knows to get paid he has to stay healthy and getting paid is his number one priority at the moment. He could have worded it a little better, but I am not going slam him for it, because there is no evidence it is affecting his play.
With that being said you have to know if you are on the Eagles anything you say is going to be amplified. This is what happens when you are on the not so much Dream Team.
