Baker Mayfield is going to be a lightning rod, and that spotlight is only going to get brighter when he eventually gets drafted in the 1st round of the NFL Draft.
Mayfield supporters are way over the top, and his haters wrongly compare him to a cokehead. There is no in between when dealing with Mayfield, but in my mind, he is a player that his proven with his play warrants a team seeing if they can build a franchise with him.
Mayfield is going to have to learn to channel his energy; he doesn’t want to be the Dez Bryant of Quarterbacks. He will be expected to be not just a leader of a team but a face of the franchise.
I heard Mayfield recently call himself a kid, he’s 23 years old, been the starting quarterback at a major college program for three years, he is not a child.
He has to grow up and buy into the fact he isn’t any college anymore; he isn’t going to be coddled, he is going to be expected to act like an adult.
I don’t think Mayfield is a bad guy, I think he is the type of guy if he is on your team you would run through a wall for him and if he isn’t you hate his guts, but you respect his play on the field.
He didn’t have a great Rose Bowl, but you see the qualities and intangibles that could make him a successful NFL quarterback. There is nothing to suggest Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold and especially Josh Allen are better than him. He won’t be the number one pick, but at the end that might be a good thing if he goes to a good team that understands how to utilize him best (same for Lamar Jackson).
As far as the game who amazing was that?
One thing about College Football is that no lead is safe. Georgia showed a lot of resilience in coming back not once, but twice to win the game.
These were two equally matched squads that put on a game for the ages; I feel fortunate to have been in attendance.
